Edited by: Brad Stone on 08/05/2007 17:51:42 Edited by: Brad Stone on 08/05/2007 17:43:19 Firstly, EVEMon is under new management. Anders is still around but no longer plays EVE and has handed day to day control of EVEMon to myself and Eewec.
The previous thread will be locked and this one stickied in it's place.
Now, onto the Exciting News!!
Announcing the latest release of Evemon - 1.2.1.778
Your evemon should auto-updating, if not, get it here.. http://evemon.battleclinic.com/downloads/EVEMon-install-1.2.1.778.exe
And the release notes are http://evemon.battleclinic.com/changelog.html
There are many, many new features too many to list here.
The most important change is that EVEMon is much kinder to CCP's servers now - they have provided us with a skilltraining xml feed that can be retrieved every 15 minutes. The downside is that the auto-update for the main character stats is restricted to every 6 hours.
Other highlights - a new skill explorer fetaure that will show you what other skills, items and ships a particular skill unlocks.
There's a spiffy piechart that will show you how your skills are broken down
The implant calculator is much improved - you can see instantly what effect changing your implants has on your skill plan times.
There's many other cool things - check the release notes!
From the original "original" post (urls changed, originally evemon.evercrest.com):
Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Announcing to the public, for the first time: EVEMon - An easy-to-use, lightweight character monitor and skill planner
EVEMon has been in development for quite some time now, as Goonfleet's own skill manager. But now, the time has come for it to be unleashed upon the rest of the EVE Universe.
* Easy To Use: Just download, install and enter your information or point to a saved character XML file to get started. It just works.
* Live Displays: All skill and training time displays throughout EVEMon are live. They automatically update as your training progresses.
* Fully-Featured Skill Planning: Everything you'd expect from a robust skill planner, including Learning skills auto-suggestions, implant effectiveness calculators, graphical skill trees, and more.
* Customizable Displays and Output: Columns in the skill planner are fully customizable; character info and plans can be saved in numerous formats, including plain text, HTML and XML; the monitor and skill planner can be run in "work safe" mode to disable images and colors for easier use in places you shouldn't be running EVEMon (you naughty thing, you).
* Skill Templating and Sharing: Skill templates can easily be created and shared with other EVEMon users, each template automatically personalizes to include all necessary skills when a template is loaded.
* Personalized Event Notifications: Send email, play sound files and more when skill training completes.
* Windowed EVE Relocation: If you play EVE on a multi-monitor system, EVEMon can reposition windowed EVE automatically to fill a monitor of your choice.
* Modular: Features you don't use, don't load.
* Open Source: You don't have to trust me when I say EVEMon is safe and secure, you can verify it for yourself. If you're not a programmer yourself, you can still benefit from the trust of scores of people who have already read over the EVEMon source code. You're fully encouraged to tinker with EVEMon, and even submit improvements back for inclusion in the main source tree.
* Actively Developed: Changes are checked into the EVEMon source tree every day, and new features are added constantly. If EVEMon doesn't do it today, it very well could tomorrow. EVEMon regularly checks for updates and offers the option to automatically install them when they're available.

Yah we've had a few reports of this - its related to the tranquility status check - for some folks, when TQ goes offline, they get this crash. A workaround is to turn off the TQ status which will stop the crash.
The problem is, that this is working fine on all the dev's machines and we're all a bit puzzled as to the cause of this. We'll keep looking tho.

To add to Scetrov's post,
we now also have dev builds available - as soon as a change is committed to the server, an automated script compiles the code and generates a zip file which you can then download. This all happens with 2 or 3 minutes of a change being committed.
So, if you want to live right on the bleeding edge of evemon, check out the "Latest snapshot binaries" on the downloads page. _________________________________________________________ Senior EVEMon developer. Try EVEMon today! It's delicious!

Its as safe as typing your credentials into your browser - which is effectively what we do. We reproduce the http conversation that the browser has with the eve-online web site.
It's all changing when we get the new API on Thursday - it will take us a few days to implement that but then you won't need to tell evemon your password any more, just the new authkey which you can generate and revoke at any time. _________________________________________________________ Senior EVEMon developer. Edited by: Brad Stone on 25/06/2007 06:37:13 Edited by: Brad Stone on 25/06/2007 06:33:06 After 3 days of solid coding stopping only for the occasional input of energy sources and output of byproducts - and the occasional hour or 3 of horizontal downtime... I give you... Evemon With added API Goodness
(for those wishing to check for nefariousness... Changeset [937] (and a small tweak in 938)
The EVEMon that implements CCP's new APIs.
This is a BETA TEST BINARY repeat BETA TEST.
This puppy is sleeker and faster, getting your downloads in the blink of an eye. It WILL need testing!!!
So what does it really mean to you, dear user?
Well, WE NONGER NEED TO KNOW YOUR PASSWORD!!!
When you first start her up, you'll need "API keys" (You DID read the rev II patch notes didn't you? and before you ask, API is technobabble for "Application Programming Interface")
There's a link on the form that pops up that you can click that will take you to CCP's webpage where you can log on and get your api key - you need to do this for every character (yes it's ROYAL pain but I don't want evemon going and getting them for you cuz the tinfoil hat wearers will come and hunt me down)
Once you've gone through the pain of getting your keys, evemon will look and behave just like normal... almost. Your character sheet will update every hour now (not 6 like before) and you can ALWAYS get the currently training skill - although the feed for that only updates every 15 minutes - but the "trying too fats" thing is gone.
When you want to save your xml, you can choose to save it on the new, short xml file format or the original long format.
If you want to load some xml from a file, it will handle both the new and the old formats.
Now go play, and tell me whats not working right....

Some folks were having issues with multiple accounts. On investigation, I found the issue - and I apologize most profusely for not fully testing the scenario where not all api keys are entered at once.
I've rereleased 1.2.4 as 1.2.4.2005
If you patched before about 23:30 today, and your evemon says "997" in the "About Evemon" box then please repatch to 1.2.4.1005
once again, I'm realy sorry for my screw up. _________________________________________________________ Senior EVEMon developer. Try EVEMon today! It's delicious!

Sorry guys for not replying here sooner, ai@ve been dealing with similar posts on the evemon forums at battleclinic.com.
Yesterday, CCP had some issues with the webservers not consistently talking to the database for the API stuff but that has been fixed now.
To get your api keys for multiple accounts, you must log out of eveo-online (either via the forum or using the "logout" link on the left hand side of the page) and you MUST click the "log on as a different user" checkbox.
Next time you go to the api page, you will be prompted to log on and then you can go get your api keys for that account.
The issue with not all skills showing on first run is fixed by simply restarting evemon - its a conversion issue where on first run, only skills that were previously in uncollapsed skill groups are shown.
If you;re having difficulties, please visit the battleclinic forums where your issue may already be answered.
For those running VISTA you may be having problems getting the datafile updates - there are a few ways round this - either run evemon in admin mode when there are udates avaulable, or change permissions on the files in your evemon/resources folder so that they can be overwritten, or download the files manually from http://evemon.battleclinic.com/downloads/eve-skills2.xml.gz (repeat for each datafile name - eve-ships2.gz, eve-items2.xml.gz and eve-implants2.xml.gz) and save them in your evemon resources folder.

I keep getting these error? What do I do?
Upgrade to the latest release (actually I recommend upgrading to the latest snapshot binary, which fixes some issues with dates/times if your pc clock is off, and also reintroduces the toolbar as a first step to a configurable toolbar. Right click on the menu to activate it)

EVEMon skills are fully up to date - please visit the site (linked in my sig) and download the latest version (currently 1.2.4 build 2005) or even better, the snapshot build which has a number of bug fixes relating to training time issues and multiple skill training coompletion notifications - and some new features (Battleclinic loadout integration)

Guys, sorry I've not replied to posts here yet. The fastest way to get my attention is on the evemon forum over at battleclinic.com
It has come to my attention that other sites are offering EVEMon downloads. USE THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK! At least one site I have seen is offering a version that is definitely NOT version 1.2.4 as released.
The EVEMon team do NOT have any official mirrors in place. The only SAFE place to get EVEMon from is the official site (see my sig) _________________________________________________________ Senior EVEMon developer. Try EVEMon today! It's delicious!

make SURE that http://localhost:8080/ is actually in your trusted site list and is "TRUSTED" - there is a bug with the IGB - if you just tick the "trust" box when first asked, it gets added to your list as UNTRUSTED and you need to go back in to the options and set it to trusted also., the traiking / is important. _________________________________________________________ Senior EVEMon developer. Originally by: Karan Hanid Hi everyone, I've tried to run EVEMON, but I get the following error. Could someone please tell me how to fix this?
Do you have any inactive characters? The API doesn't work with suspended accounts.
If not, I'd suggest grabbing the lateest snapshot build (linked in a couple of posts above) and see if that works for you. Come back to me if you still haev an issue. _________________________________________________________ Senior EVEMon developer. Try EVEMon today! It's delicious!

Yes battleclinic's servers are being updated - but the hosting company didn;t tell the site owner they were doing it. Here's what he told me:
"At 7:30pm Friday 7/27, our servers went down. When I called our hosting company to understand what was going on, they informed me that the data center was moving and that we would be out of service for 12-15 hours from 5pm EST 7/27." so in theory they should be back shortly after DT today _________________________________________________________ Senior EVEMon developer. re: selecting a skill with a certain time
The skills filter can help you select an apprropriate skill - this is what I do - On the skill browser, select the "known skills" filter and then "time to next level". Scan down the list to find a skill with th sort of time you need, and pick a skill. It only takes a few seconds to do. _________________________________________________________ Senior EVEMon developer. Try EVEMon today! It's delicious!

Catchin up on recent questions and comments:
Ardent: You can put any server address in the email notification option
Neela: Your api key comes from the eve website. Click the URL in the dialog box where it asks for the API key
Deepfreeze: You can copy the evemion folder and subfolders to a USB device, also copy your settings.xml file and it will work fine - no registry keys needed.
Stingg Ray - I will look into teh inEVE integration, I thiought it was working ok....
Tsung Wei: There are issues with skill training time in the last released version of evemon - if your pc clock os off or set for the worng tiomezone, then it will calculate the training time slightly incorrectly - to fix this update to the latest snapshot binary build
Ratzap: sorry man, unfortubnately theres not a lot we can do if the settings got corrupted. it happens extremely rarely, we're looking to improve it.
Capitaan: Evemon cannot currently build a character for you.
Alaris: The NSIS installer we use us known to trigger a false alert in some cases. Read the FAQ at the evemon site.
